The government announced plan to increase coal export by about 10 percent this year as domestic output exceeded government's initial target of 262,48 million tonnes, predicting no significant changes in domestic energy demand which often saw shortcomings in coal supply that affect electricity supply.
Secretary for Director General of Mineral Coal and Geothermal Witoro Soelarno said on Monday (26/7) domestic supply of around 70 million tonnes had been met, while export at the end of the first semester has reached 124 million tonnes.
Average annual export in past few years is at 150 million tonnes with last year's volume hit 198 million tonnes.
Coal contractors operating under the coal mining agreement contributed 11.5 tonnes of the total export in the first half, mining license holders contributed about 7.5 million tonnes while state-owned Bukit Asam put up 5 million tonnes.
