Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Darwin Saleh said the result of a review of the electricity price hike would result in failure to cover a shortfall of Rp4.6 trillion in the amount of electricity subsidy.
"We are still calculating the definitive figures now," he said in an interview with a television station here on Wednesday.
He said he must ensure the correctness of the figures so that they would not be wrong. He said he would also report them first to the coordinating minister for economic affairs before making them known to the public.
He said the assumption for electricity tariff hike for industries had been set at maximally 17 percent.
The general chairman of the Indonesian Furniture and Handcraft Manufacturers (Asmindo), Ambar Tjahyono, meanwhile said the new electricity tariff would affect the industry unless it was reviewed.
"In the midst of the world economy which is not yet recovered from a crisis the rise in the electricity tariff will be a huge blow for industry," he said.
He said furniture industry would undergo a rise of 100 to 150 percent in peak hours or averagely 30 percent with the current hike.
He said modern furniture industry used wood drying machine that works 24 hours so that it would certainly be affected by the hike for the peak hours.
"The condition will affect three million workers in the industry directly or eight million people indirectly," he said. (*)
