The management of PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam) has denied plan to form a joint venture on producing smelter grade alumina with Chinese company, Baosteel.
To Bisnis.com this afternoon, Antam's Corporate Secretary Bimo Budi Satriyo explained the company has no plan to cooperate with Baosteel.
The statement is indeed a denial against the information from Head of Capital Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan saying that Antam and Baosteel will soon sign a contract of joint venture on smelter grade alumina project in Kalimantan.
"The existing plan is to build a plant which processed bauxite into smelter grade alumina in Mempawah, West Kalimantan," he said.
According to him, Antam forms a joint venture with Hangzhou Jinjiang Group, China. Antam will share 55% in the joint venture while Hangzhou owns the rest 45%.
The joint venture is expected to have a 1 million tonnes production capacity of smelter grade alumina per year with project value estimated at US$900 million-US$1 billion.
Now, said Bimo, Antam is entering the final stage of the feasibility study.
