A Turkish investor has planned to build flour plant in Indonesia, an officer says.
“A rumor saying that Turkey has applied flour dumping has triggered an investor to build a plant here,” chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Gita Wirjawan said over the weekend, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com.
Gita, however, refused to give detail on the Turkish investor.
“It is too early to tell,” he said, adding he hoped the Turkish investor would establish a joint venture with local businesspeople.
Indonesian Flour Producers Association chairman Franky Welirang previously said that a flour plant with 1,000 tons capacity per day needed at least US$35 million in investment.
According to the association, Indonesia favors Turkish flour. The country imported 382,145 tons of flour in 2009, an increase compared to 227,472 tons in the previous year.
